MISSION

The Charles Darwin Trust (CDT) seeks to use the intellectual and cultural heritage of Darwin, through his approach and work at Down House and in the immediate countryside, to influence a step change in the learning of, and understanding about, science and the environment. This will be achieved through Darwin-Inspired Seminars, and through research and development of materials, developing programmes for schools and the interested public at Downe and on the web. This programme of activity is expressed through The Charles Darwin Forum.

PURPOSE

  • A place for the interpretation of Charles Darwin’s science next to Down House in the heart of Darwin’s countryside
  • Downe countryside to become a focus and resource for science, as it was in Charles Darwin’s lifetime

AIMS

  • To use Darwin-Inspired Thinking and the Forum’s facilities, programmes and seminars to break new ground and transform the way people of all ages, including policy-makers, view science and the natural world.
  • To encourage vigorous debate and rigorous reporting of key science and public policy issues
  • To use Darwin-Inspired Teaching and Learning to promote excellence in science education
  • To enhance the understanding of Darwin’s historical and contemporary significance
  • To improve and extend science literacy and the understanding of science
